The position:

The Clean Energy Business Network is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization serving as the small business voice for the clean energy economy. We work to enhance opportunities for small and midsize clean energy companies through policy support, market and technology education, and business development assistance. Our projects include numerous campaigns to engage small businesses in policy; educational products such as case studies and infographics on the clean energy economy; initiatives on diversity, equity, and inclusion in cleantech; and a subcontract with the U.S. Department of Energy to help support entrepreneurs developing innovative energy solutions. Learn more about our history and mission.

We are seeking two full-time Associates—one focused on Communications and one focused on Business Development—to perform a range of communications, policy, business development, and administrative functions. We are a small, tightknit team offering a friendly and supportive work environment, competitive salary and benefits, and rewarding, mission-driven work. This is a full-time employee (not independent contractor) position.

We offer a flexible working environment and schedules. In-person meetings in DC are sometimes necessary, so candidates should either be willing to relocate to DC or have a place to stay for extended periods as needed.

Job duties:

The two positions will likely be divided as follows, but there may be some overlap and/or reconfiguring of duties based on the candidates’ interests and skillsets. Training will be provided! We work to ensure every team member is up to speed on the full spectrum of CEBN’s work and capable of pitching in wherever needed.

  • Serving as the lead point in combing policy and news updates and drafting weekly newsletter summarizing these developments
  • Serving as the lead point on drafting, designing, posting, and amplifying social media
  • Serving as the lead point on developing “Faces Behind the Facts” profiles sharing the stories of business leaders behind the U.S. energy transformation
  • Making technical and content edits to website
  • Forming a strong understanding of organizational policy priorities, communications strategies, and brand to ensure that all external products remain on message
  • Participating in weekly coalition calls related to policy and communications
  • Meeting with policy offices in Congress and the Administration and representing organizational policy priorities
  • Supporting the development of press statements, policy advocacy letters and summaries
  • Researching clean energy data, facts, and project locations for communications projects
  • Supporting event production by drafting invitations, coordinating with speakers and entertainment, and developing programs
  • Serving as a professional representative of the organization in front of external audiences
  • Administrative tasks such as member database management and metrics tracking

Business Development Associate:

  • Serving as the lead point for maintaining a nationwide database of funding opportunities for clean energy technology research, development, and deployment
  • Supporting the development of a new resource cataloguing clean energy and climate technology investors and building foundational relationships across the cleantech investor ecosystem
  • Recruiting and supporting members, clean energy investors, and other partners by researching candidates, convening introductory calls and emails, and developing marketing campaigns
  • Highlighting resources of interest to premium members
  • Developing systematic methods to track and improve membership recruitment and retention strategies
  • Providing targeted introductions, offering strategic guidance, and highlighting relevant resources for new and existing members
  • Supporting Department of Energy awardees and other startups by researching and recommending resources to support their work, reviewing pitch materials, and facilitating curated introductions
  • Researching new programs and services across the nation to support clean energy companies
  • Supporting event production by drafting invitations, coordinating with speakers and entertainment, and developing programs
  • Serving as a professional representative of the organization in front of external audiences
  • Administrative tasks such as member database management, metrics tracking, and writing updates on CEBN accomplishments
