Washington, D.C. – The Clean Energy Business Network issued the following statement from President Lynn Abramson in response to the Senate failing to pass H.R. 5100 yesterday—legislation that unanimously passed the House of Representatives on September 15th to extend the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs for one year. As of today, these programs have now officially lapsed and new solicitations will be suspended until the programs are reauthorized.
“We are incredibly disappointed that authorization for the SBIR/STTR programs has lapsed. Pausing these programs for even a few months will have devastating impacts on the R&D community. While we fully respect that negotiations about the longer-term future of SBIR are ongoing, a one-year extension would keep programs running and allow more time for these negotiations to continue.
“The SBIR/STTR programs have a successful 40-year track record of advancing the development and commercialization of cutting-edge technologies by small businesses. This innovation pipeline has just come to a screeching halt. We urge lawmakers to swiftly reauthorize this program.”
