In the United States, the industrial sector is both an important and growing producer and end user of our nation’s vast energy supplies. As U.S. manufacturing, refining, and exports grow, so too do the energy demands on our nation’s industrial centers. From 2017 to 2018, industrial energy use grew 4.7 percent, resulting in an uptick in greenhouse gas emissions.

How can the U.S.—and North America more broadly—continue to accelerate economic growth in our major industrial centers without a corresponding increase in energy demand? Fortunately, a broad portfolio of technologies exist to help industry and surrounding communities remain competitive in the global economy, keep energy costs low, and achieve attainment with air quality regulations.

Nueces County, TX is home to the Port of Corpus Christi—the 4th largest port in the United States in total tonnage, processing significant volumes of crude oil, liquefied natural gas, and wind turbine components. The County and Port have teamed up with the Clean Energy Business Network to offer this constructive dialogue among industry leaders across North America.

This forum is the latest event in CEBN Power Circuit, a series of regional events exploring the market and policy landscape for clean energy in communities across the United States. CEBN Power Circuit is made possible with support from Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) Forum–the lead organization behind National Clean Energy Week, and by Natixis Investment Managers, pioneer of the first ESG-driven 401(k) target date mutual funds.
