Washington, D.C. – Lisa Jacobson, President of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) and Lynn Abramson, President of the Clean Energy Business Network (CEBN) provided the following statements in response to Senate passage of the budget reconciliation bill, which includes proposals to alter existing federal energy tax credits.
“BCSE appreciates the steps taken by the U.S. Senate to provide a more workable transition for energy businesses currently utilizing federal energy tax credits, in particular in the areas of renewable energy and hydrogen,” said BCSE President Lisa Jacobson. “As Congress continues to consider this legislation, our industries urge policymakers to address provisions that could still cause uncertainty and increase energy costs. These provisions include consumer credits for energy efficiency and clean energy that help lower energy costs for families and businesses, make the grid more resilient, protect good American jobs, and provide certainty for vital investments in the energy sector.”
“We are grateful to those Senators who rallied to strengthen the package during its consideration today,” said CEBN President Lynn Abramson. “The final Senate-passed legislation is an improvement over the earlier draft released this weekend and represents a positive outcome for a number of energy industries. However, it still represents a significant step backward for the portfolio of tools available in the energy sector as a whole – rapidly sunsetting many credits in 2025 and 2026 while imposing additional bureaucratic requirements on projects. We hope to continue working with lawmakers toward solutions to protect business certainty, jobs, and our ability to meet growing U.S. energy demand.”
