Washington, D.C. – The Clean Energy Business Network issued the following statement from President Lynn Abramson in response to the House passage of legislation to extend the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs for one year. Absent Congressional action, these programs are set to expire on September 30.
“The SBIR program has a successful track record of over 40 years supporting small businesses in commercializing cutting-edge technologies in the energy sector and beyond,” said Lynn Abramson. “CEBN applauds House Small Business Committee Chairman Williams and Ranking Member Velázquez for pushing this one-year extension forward. We greatly appreciate the support of the House of Representatives for passing this bill with wide bipartisan support under suspension of the rules.”
“CEBN strongly urges the Senate to pass this legislation swiftly to provide small business innovators with the certainty we owe them, as negotiators work out a longer-term reauthorization. While real differences remain between Republican and Democratic proposals to improve the program, it is vital that SBIR does not lapse, even for several months. The repercussions would be devastating for the R&D community.”
