Washington Post Climate 202 | December 9, 2021 — CEBN’s letter calling on Congress to enact robust investments in Build Back Better received coverage from the Washington Post. This campaign has attracted coverage of national news outlets and has the support of 700+ business leaders representing over 500 businesses and all 50 states. CEBN shared the letter with the offices of all 50 Senate Democrats, demonstrating broad backing from the business community.
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the Department of Energy (DOE) have created a new, cross-cutting funding opportunity to support community partnerships. The Inclusive Energy Innovation Prize will provide a total of $2.5 million in funding to up to 10 teams to advance ideas for a just and equitable transition. The Small Business Innovation Research/Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR), known as “America’s Seed Fund,” provides nondilutive grants to small businesses to help them develop and commercialize technology innovations. In November, 2021, Clean Energy Business Network celebrates its one-year anniversary as a Power Connector for the U.S. Department of Energy’s American-Made Challenges program—a series of prize competitions to lower the barriers U.S.-based innovators face in reaching manufacturing scale and accelerate the development of new clean energy technologies.
BCSE President Lisa Jacobson and CEBN President Lynn Abramson released the joint-statement below following the House passing a procedural vote to consider the Build Back Better Act and passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The IIJA includes $80 billion in investments in power and grid infrastructure, energy efficiency, and advanced transportation.
More than 750 clean energy business leaders have signed on to CEBN’s letter to Congress applauding passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill and calling for further action on clean energy. This campaign has attracted support from clean energy business leaders representing 539 firms and across all 50 states. The letter demonstrates strong backing from clean energy business leaders across the country, and it has received coverage from Politico’s Morning Energy and the Washington Post.
A recent webinar hosted by the Business Council for Sustainable Energy and the Clean Energy Business Network explored strategies to strengthen diversity and inclusivity in the clean energy economy. In addition, the webinar discussed a case study with respect to the U.S. Department of Energy’s American-Made Solar Prize, a $4.6M prize competition to help innovators rapidly develop new solar technology and software solutions.
The Small Business Administration has selected the CEBN as a winner for the 2021 Growth Accelerator Fund Competition (GAFC). The GAFC winners were selected based on their proposals for targeting innovation-focused entrepreneurs from underrepresented and under-resourced communities. As a GAFC winner, CEBN joins 84 other organizations across the nation who provide support to innovation- and STEM-focused entrepreneurs in fields such as clean energy, supply chain resilience, and infrastructure. CEBN will receive a $50,000 prize to complete its plans for targeted assistance to entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities working in clean energy innovation.
