Clean Energy Spotlights (November 2022)

At CEBN, we see innovators and entrepreneurs every day working to create a more affordable, sustainable, and accessible clean energy future. Every other month, CEBN will shine a spotlight on changemakers across our premium member network.

This month, the spotlight is on clean energy businesses who are taking advantage of pitch competitions, federal policy, and local partners to build their impact. Plus, meet new CEBN members and fellows!

Dynamhex Wins Pitch Competition

Congratulations to CEBN Member Dynamhex for winning the Fairfax County Innovation Challenge pitch competition! Its technology will now be considered for a pilot project in Fairfax County. Dynamhex uses spatial data and intuitive analytics to show emissions on an interactive mapping software, which enables counties like Fairfax to model ways to reduce its emissions and achieve its community’s climate goals. Businesses, utilities, and governments can also utilize Dynamhex’s technology to make data-driven decisions. Learn more about Dynamhex and the Innovation Challenge!

IRA Reduces Costs for Gulf Coast Green Energy

Gulf Coast Green Energy recently announced that the new federal investment tax credit will reduce its systems costs by 30-50%. These credits were passed in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Gulf Coast Green Energy states that this law is “a big step toward achieving important sustainable and energy efficiency milestones in the United States.” We look forward to seeing how the IRA supports Gulf Coast Green Energy and other clean energy businesses!

MDC Hosts Solar Installation Class

This November, Macedonia Development Corporation (MDC) launched the first Solar Installation Class offered and located in East St. Louis, IL and Beverly Hills, MO. Support and collaboration were offered by Lewis and Clark Community College (LCCC), SWIC’s East St. Louis High Education Campus, the City of Beverly Hills, and Maria Telkes Fellow Hilary Scott-Ogunrinde. These organizations are bringing solar education training to prospective students in East St. Louis and St. Louis County, MO as part of a regional partnership to advance green career training opportunities to students of color in low income and environmental justice communities. This work is being piloted in the hopes that a similar model can be used as MDC’s coalition engages Illinois’ Climate Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) Clean Jobs Workforce Network Program in 2023!

CarbonQuest

CEBN’s newest Executive Circle member, CarbonQuest, provides immediate decarbonization solutions for building owners with building carbon capture technology. CarbonQuest has installed its first system in a multi-family building in New York City in 2022, and five more systems are coming online in 2023, to cumulative capture up to 4000 metric tons of O2 per year.  The recycled CO2 is used in green concrete production and sustainable aviation fuel to displace petroleum. Emissions from onsite combustion in buildings and industry amount to 1.7 Gigatons per year and CarbonQuest is paving the way to simultaneously reduce those emissions and bring about green circular economy.
