CESMII RFP 4: Advanced Sensors, Controls, Platforms, and Modeling for Manufacturing

The Dept of Energy, in partnership with the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII), is announcing $2 million in funding to help manufacturers adopt smart manufacturing technologies and processes that will increase productivity, save energy, and boost competitiveness across energy-intensive industries. Accelerating smart manufacturing technologies – including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics – increases integration and automation, helping manufacturers monitor, evaluate, and improve their operations.

Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator

MEIA focuses on early-stage technology commercialization in partnership with Maryland-based Universities and Labs to support Maryland’s Clean Energy and Climate Goals. MEIA supports solar, wind, batteries, energy efficiency, grid modernization, carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS), and any other technology that reduces greenhouse gas emissions or provides negative emissions benefits in the electric, oil and gas, residential, commercial or industrial sectors. MEIA offers three programs to Maryland-based clean energy and climate technology inventors:  Pre-AcceleratorLaunchpad, and Accelerator.

Lithium Extraction and Conversion from Geothermal Brines

AMMTO and GTO are jointly issuing a Funding Opportunity Announcement of Lithium Extraction and Conversion from Geothermal Brines. Visiting Faculty Program

The Visiting Faculty Program (VFP), formerly called Faculty and Student Teams (FaST), is designed to provide an opportunity for faculty members from institutions historically marginalized in STEM to enhance research capabilities and strengthen STEM education and learning practices to develop talent to contribute to the Department of Energy (DOE) research areas. VFP accomplishes this mission in two tracks: (1) VFP Research Collaboration Track and (2) VFP Teaching Initiative Track.

As a component of VFP’s Research Collaboration and Teaching Initiative tracks, selected university/college faculty members collaborate with DOE laboratory research staff on a research project of mutual interest. Additionally, faculty member participants may invite up to two students (one of which may be a graduate student) to join the project in the summer terms.

The Visiting Faculty Program (VFP) is now open for applications for the 2023 Summer Term. Applications are due January 10, 2023 at 5:00 PM ET.

Manufacturing Innovation Institute for Smart Manufacturing

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and  the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute  (CESMII) are inviting proposals on projects that will demonstrate the application of integrated smart manufacturing (SM) technologies to improve energy productivity and operational efficiencies in the exemplar, end-to-end manufacturing supply chains that include several contributing small and mid-sized manufacturers (SMMs).  The supply chains may cover energy-intensive industries and/or industry verticals with a broad reach across the US.

Projects must support the development of a CESMII SM Playbook for manufacturers.  The playbook is intended to turn project outcomes into broadly-applicable guidelines for SMMs in identifying opportunities to leverage SM technology towards achieving higher levels of productivity and capacity, implementing those solutions, and training their workforce to leverage the solutions in their manufacturing jobs.

Marine Energy Graduate Student Research Program Fellowship

As a participant in the Marine Energy Graduate Student Research Program, students will conduct research at both their academic institution and at an external hosting facility carrying out research in marine energy (ME) and supporting the research plan you submit at the time of application. Hosting facility may be a government research facility, industry site (including but not limited to technology developers), or other facility approved by WPTO as a host facility. Fellows will spend a minimum of six months at the host facility.

Apply with a research plan and letter of support from a proposed mentor by December 2, 2022.

The Better Project and Better Practice awards

The Better Project and Better Practice awards recognize partners for innovative and industry leading accomplishments in implementing decarbonization, energy and water efficiency, or waste reduction projects/practices.

Better Buildings Initiative partners can nominate their organization by downloading and completing the application form and emailing it to betterbuildings@ee.doe.gov. Nominations must be received no later than January 23, 2023.

Successful applications will address: Innovative ways to improve energy or water efficiency, waste reduction, or decreases in greenhouse gas emissions; significant savings and practices that can be replicated in other buildings or industrial facilities; and overcoming barriers .

Bethesda Green Innovation Lab

Bethesda Green’s Accelerator is the cornerstone of Bethesda Green’s Innovation Lab program, an expansive suite of programming designed to support entrepreneurs through all stages of their business life cycle.

The Accelerator program is a fast-paced, high-touch, 4-month intensive curriculum. Each cohort launches in early January, utilizing an online platform to manage curriculum, and facilitate mentor engagement and feedback to entrepreneurs.
