Panelists explored how state governments are responding to COVID-19, identified what energy resilience solutions are needed by communities in the wake of this crisis, and discussed federal infrastructure legislation currently pending in Congress that could assist communities in building stronger, more resilient energy systems.

The second Powering Forward webinar, hosted by the Business Council for Sustainable Energy, Clean Energy Business Network and E2, compared the findings of the 2020 Sustainable Energy in America Factbook to the current and projected impacts on the clean energy economy due to COVID-19.

House Democrats have unveiled their $1.5T infrastructure package, the Moving Forward Act, which includes funding for highway and transit, broadband, low-income schools, public housing, and hospitals. It also targets the clean energy sector through $70B in funding for clean energy projects, extending the investment and production tax credits through the end of 2025 and expanding these to new technologies.

Our organizations are committed to advancing a more equitable future within the clean energy economy and beyond, and we recognize the significant, and often tragic, disparities that exist for the Black community and people of color.

In reflecting on how to make progress within our society, we must also look internally at the energy sector. As we grow the clean energy workforce and leadership opportunities within it, we must challenge ourselves to seek greater diversity and inclusivity in our industries. This is especially important as we work to alleviate the disproportionate impact of climate change upon minority and low-income communities. As corporate leaders, we recognize the importance of our voice in contributing to proactive and thoughtful solutions to racial and economic divides in this critical moment.
